Field welded grease ducts

Rick,
You are correct, there is no testing requirement in the CMC for field welded grease ducts. If you suspect poor workmanship such as incomplete welds or very uneven weld beads, then you have the discretion as a Building Official to require testing for verifying adequate construction and performance.
Unless the workmanship is poor, these duct types generally do not have air leakage problems.
The exhaust duct penatrates a second story floor,a roof and there are 2-45deg angles in the duct. The duct was appaerntly welded together in sections for installation in the shaft.

The contractor installed the duct before the welds were inspected so we don't know if the welding is adiquate. So were are requiring the smoke test.
