The code sections referenced and application correct:
California Fire Code and IFC 2009-2010, sections 903.3.5-903.3.5.1.2.
I have a water purveyor who is trying to limit connections to a street grid main by connecting once with a tee, service a property with a public fire hydrant, a NFPA 13 fire sprinkler system to a building and the properties domestic and landscaping water demands. Up until now, fire service laterals off of street mains have been dedicated to fire sprinkler. With a new official brought on board with the water purveyor changing policy, I believe the application of the referenced fire code does not allow a combined domestic/landscape and automatic fire sprinkler supply for a NFPA 13 system unless the system in the commercial building is categorized as a limited area system less than 20 heads as stipulated in 903.3.5.1. I know in some jurisdictions the combined domestic/fire sprinkler system is being approved for full NFPA 13 systems in buildings. Does anyone have this issue in their jurisdiction and how do you deal with it? Also, what informal opinions of the code sections referenced do you have. Any input related is appreciated.
Thank you so much.
