We are working on a new elementary school, Type IIB construction which requires a firewall between Building “A” and “B” due to gross area. In line with the firewall is an aluminum framed storefront system that spans 12’-0” in height and separates Building "B" from an internal courtyard. Question, would the window system need to be a rated glazing system? We are providing a 2-hr rated exterior wall assembly that is perpendicular from the firewall and extends 15’-0” which is thought to eliminate the need for the rated glazing assembly. Attached is a plan which hopefully communicates the conditions better. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
