water barrier and wood construction

Section 1404.2 of the 2006 IBC calls for a minimum of 1 layer of 15# felt for a water resistive barrier over SHEATHING OR STUDS. In section 1405.6 for stone units (I assume cultured stone to fall into this category) it staes that 2 layers of a water resistive barrier be applied directly to the studs but does not say anything if a structural wood panel is used (plywood, OSB). Is it the intent to require 2 layers on wood sheathing for cultured stone installation or would the minimum of 1 layer apply? Thanks!

For manufactured stone veneer.....follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and ICC report in lieu of the code requirements for installing a true stone veneer.

Because the "fake stuff" is much lighter than true veneer, ICC reports are used to allow for the installation of the "fake stuff" without some of the true veneer requirements like metal ledgers, mechanical tie-backs, etc. In most cases, the "fake stuff" is applied over the top of the scratch and brown coats in a 3-coat system, or otherwise adhered to the primary exterior wall surface.
