I have a commercial space with a single exit required.  The building official is citing the 2016 CBC section 1010.1.4.3 referencing  folding doors and suggesting the 8 listed criteria for folding doors be met rather than allowing an otherwise compliant swing door (which is a part of the folding door) to be regarded as the exit. If I can provide some code citation or manufacturer's documentation supporting the use of the swing door, he'll consider it.  Can anybody help?  Thanks.

I would appeal to the Chief BO since when the folding door is closed you have a complaint swing door.  That is if, that door actually does meet Code.  I have done a number of this type of folding doors within conference rooms/churches and never had anyone say I couldn't.  Not that is proof it can be done.

Is this a convenience door or a means of egress door which is what 1010.1.4.3 is addressing.  If it is a convenience door then I don't think 1010.1.4.3 applies.  At least that is my opinion
