I wish the SFM would stop changing it, we're already back to a state code that barely resembles the model IBC and that will just make matters worse and worse when they try to update during the next major CA code rollout [every three years, right?].
I was personally involved with the adoption process here in the LA area with the SFM before we adopted the 2006 IBC. I met with the group in the LA-DSA offices several times and corresponded with the SFM offices directly as well. At each meeting I was the only practicing architect present.
While that is fine, finding the "perfect start off wording" to push ammendments through the CBSC process to me doesn't really justify doing so: California now has a lot of voting blocks in the ICC and truly THAT is where the code changes should occur, not at the state level, which unfortunately sets us back to where we were with the 2001 CBC.
Just think how this will all go when we move to the 2009 IBC or 2011 IBC. More tremendous and well-meaning effort required for CBSC and every agency for their own little [or big!] areas of concern...
