I am working on a large Non-Residential project that project that incorporates a covered walkway, beginning at the (proposed) Exit Discharge location and continuing for approximately 60' toward the public way/safe dispersal area and then becomes open to the sky. This occurs at 2 independent buildings, which have paths that merge at the at the 60' dimension. The covered walk is open on all sides with the exception of the roof. I am inclined to consider the covered walk a portion of the building and not consider the exit discharge requirement met, however I am looking for some consensus and/ or opposition to this thought. Thanks in advance to all.

If the proposed exit discharge is exterior, then it fairly well meets the definition per CBC. There are particular requirements for the cover structures but usually and typically awnings or shade roofs are not considered part of the building unless fully enclosed.
